I concentrate on producing engaging brush strokes within an interesting painting, breaking each plane of colour down into individual shapes. I owe this obsession with gestural portraiture to the likes of Uglow and Hambling, their technique allows sections of their paintings to be taken out of context and still bewitch the viewer.  Whilst I do not work from memory like Hambling, relying on life and source material, I share a love for interesting marks and colour.

This is something I continue to strive for in my own work, to create a feast for the eyes and the mind. To hail equally subject matter and medium.
