I wanted to approach pet portraits in the same way I would human portraiture, focussing on gesture and an aesthetically interesting final piece, no matter the subject.
It helps that I am crazy about animals, especially dogs. What better way to spend my day than looking into the jowly face of a canine while I paint?
I enjoy the process of taking the image from start to finish, the reference photographs, producing compositional drawings and finally the painting itself. Using a traditional techniques in a contemporary fashion, your final painting or drawing will be a great addition to your home. Often I ask clients about the room they wish to hang a piece as it can be completed using a complementary colour palette, with a special focus on the image’s background.
